Italy and Switzerland

Barry and Donna in ItalyItaly has been great while there we visited Pompeii with Sam and Linda another couple we have travelled with, both from NZ.

On the way out of Italy we camped alongside Lake Como, what a stunning location. The north of Italy is really nice and mountainous.

3 days ago we headed into Switzerland, this country never fails to please. It is such a great place. After lake Como we drove up high into the Swiss Alps to a place called Tasch about a 10 min train ride from Zermatt where the Matterhorn is located. Zermatt has about 7,000 people no petrol/diesel cars, all electric vehicles for public transport and supply only. Locals either walk, ride bicycles or catch electric taxi’s around this small village. We took a chairlift up into the mountains about 4,500 meters up past the base of the Matterhorn the views were spectacular. Last night we caught up with a good friend of Sally Armstrong’s “Cass” she cooked us up a traditional swiss meal it was so interesting and great food cooking your own food on a small electric cooker various meats, potato’s, cheese and salads. Great night.

Next day we dove into France and did about 350km stayed in a quiet camp site for the night, next day 500km to a place called Lillie just 33km out of Calais on the English channel. Spent another night in a neat little camp site only 16 euro for the night. Next day dove to Calais and loaded the car onto a train ready to cross into England. Arrived in Dover at approx 3pm after turning clocks back 1 hour. Great English welcome grey skies, drizzle, fog and cold.

Couple of issues with the ignition switch at the moment will have to have it seen too soon. Also power issues with the computer. The 12 volt power chord is stuffed so have to rely on 240 volts to charge the computer. Just part of the challenge.
