Home Run to Portugal

August 24, 2016 4 Comments

Once we left the UK we headed straight to Portugal in pretty quick time due to our desire (mine in particular) to end the trip and get home.

We drove straight to Portugal through Spain in a bit of a marathon effort diving 300 to 400km per day. We reached Portugal spent 3 days in the country then headed back towards Spain again driving long hours into France then up into Germany then into Denmark to visit some great fiends of ours Kim and Sue. We arrived on Saturday 21st Aug and will leave next Saturday. Kim and Sue have taken time off work to spend some time with us and show us around Aarhus a beautiful city of some 300,000 people. It is a stunning unique city with so much going on and lots of construction work. We visited the Queen of Denmark’s local residence an impressive Georgian style 3 story palace set on lovely grounds. The public have access to wander around the palace and its ground when she is not in residence.

Tomorrow we head off down to Kim and Sue’s summer house for a couple of days to do some kayaking and relax about 1 hour’s drive from Aarhus.

Tonight Donna has cooked up one of her special meals for us all, prawn and avocado entree with a chicken filet soaked in a cheese sauce, mushrooms stuffed with garlic and melted cheese. Yum should be a great meal as she did at Barry and Rosemary’s in the UK not the same meal but a great result as I am sure this one will be.

On the 23rd Aug we drove down to Kim and Sue’s summer house about an hour drive from Aarhus a place called Eteboelle a lovely place almost on the Limfjoden connected to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. We will be here for 2 days then head back to Aarhus. This Thursday night Kim and Sue have booked a restaurant in town, should be a nice night.

When we leave Aarhus we will head over to Berlin to meet up with my sister, Lynn Davis to pick up our new Carnet de passage. Lynn is bringing the new document with her to Berlin on 31st Aug. Once we have this doc we then will drive to Bremerhaven in Germany to book the Ford in for shipping back to Australia. Then we will catch a bus to Hamburg to fly back home.

This has been an exciting trip and an education on what can be achieved if you put your mind to it. Donna is a different person due to her experiences. I think we could take on any sort of trip now after what we have done in the last 18 months. We have missed the Taylors over the last few months, it certainly is better to travel with mates.

Hi you Wonderful Adventurers. It is great to see you are having such a Fab time and meeting great people. We haven’t read your yarns for awhile, just catching up now. Sounds like you are getting close to heading back soon. No place like home. Not much to report here from us. Just golfing, drinking, laughing and not much of the other “ing”. Ha. It will be great to see you both and hear some more interesting and very funny stories. Travel safe.

  4. It was lovely to meet Alan and Lynn on the Barrier Hwy, on our way through Wilcannia, going to Tilpa and then on to Qld. It’s a roasting hot Australia Day at Tilpa today. Safe travels home, hope to meet up with you again someday.
