Home Run
In the last week we have been hoteling and camping between Bremerhaven and Bremen. We spent 2 x nights camping in a cute little beachside area called Cux Haven on the North Sea. Great food and friendly people. Met a guy (Dennis) at a seaside restaurant – he was the barman. He spoke German, Spanish and English very well. He was taken by the sheer size of our journey and just wanted to know more. The next morning he turned up at our campsite with eggs, cheese and bread for breakfast and wanted to keep talking about our trip. Dennis is a professional basketball player and has a girlfriend who is a model (haven’t met her yet). When we return to Bremerhaven they want to come and have dinner with us before we leave for Hamburg and fly out for Oz.
We are currently in Bremen touring around until the 15th Sept; the date we have to drop our car off for shipping back home.
Last week we spent some time with Lynn (my sister) in Berlin with her daughter Haylee. Haylee was great, taking us around in Berlin sightseeing, drinking and eating. We did a boat cruise in one of the many canals in Berlin – very interesting and great weather. Tomorrow we will head off into the unknown and visit whatever town pops to mind, either from the lonely planet book or somebody’s recommendation. We plan on being back in Bremerhaven on the 13th Sept and stay at the same hotel we left a few days ago. The owners of the hotel have been so good to us offering to pick up our Carnet from customs and post it to our home address. They have also been doing some printing of documents etc in preparations to send the old Ford back home. I must say the Ford is going as good today as it went when we left in March 2015 – what an amazing vehicle! We had a guy wanting to buy it today and do a trip to Africa. Had to say sorry too late due to payments made for shipping. On Tuesday next week we will visit a climate change facility in Bremerhaven. Apparently you experience 6 to 8 different climates in a window of about 5 hours, should be interesting.
While in Bremerhaven we may go and visit the Mercedes Benz manufacturing plant – hope we can arrange a tour.
