Barry is a Licensed Builder and has been in the building industry for over 45 years. He has operated his own businesses since 1972 (including Armstrong Homes, Pregard Pty Ltd, and UBuild Homes).

Barry’s qualifications include Carpentry & Joinery, a Certificate 4 in Training, a full NSW building license, HSC Induction Card for the WA Pilbara Region SAP No.  9194189, and has worked on the Rio Tinto mine sites (Currently qualified). A major benchmark was building over 550 homes on the Mid North Coast of NSW And Sunshine Coast in QLD.

During his years as a project builder Barry began developing systems for the residential construction industry and still continues to develop those systems on IBM Lotus Notes.

In 2003 Barry commenced developing systems and procedures for a new business opportunity “UBuild Homes” – an owner builder service orientated business. In April of 2013 he worked in Karatha assisting a local preferred Rio Tinto builder with systems set up and business management.

Awards and Education Initiatives:

  • Won Australia Business Limited (ABL) “Presidents Prize” for Education and Training 2001
  • Won “Excellence In Business”  Award in 2002
  • Received Highly Commended certificate in “Excellence In Business” Awards in 2000
  • Conducted a Youth Training Initiative in partnership with local Department of Education (Dept of Education Port Macquarie) for 5 years encouraging youth into the residential construction industry
  • Obtained Federal funding for Front Line Management courses for trades on the mid North Coast in partnership with local Tafe
  • Obtained accreditation with Hastings Council with Environmental Protection keeping building sites compliant
  • Completed the E Myth course in 2001 with a mentor in Brisbane, Edward Bonel

Barry has developed innovative building systems including:

  2. Construction Tracking (Lotus Notes)
  3. Estimating Program (Microsoft Excel)
  4. Colour Selection Program (Microsoft Excel)

Community Activities:

Armstrong Homes has been a supporter of Hastings District Respite Care for some years now. Armstrong Homes renovated the respite centre’s current premises at cost, saving the centre many thousands of dollars.

Objective:

Barry’s aim is to continue to grow UBuild Homes and become more involved in education and training for owner builders.

Hobbies:

  • Motor Sport Sprint Events,
  • Go Kart Social Racing,
  • Golf,
  • Travel.

Volunteer Experience:

To contribute to local charities such as Hasting Respite Care and Kids with Cancer.
