A quiet day today on Atauro Island. I went with Barry (the property owner) to a nearby site, planned to be a resort development. I gave him a few options for earthwork shapes and levels, so he doesn’t flood the neighbours, or the road doesn’t flood him! We’ll go back tomorrow with a water level, and set it out. Wages are $5.25 US per day for the workers and gravel is $5 for a seven tonne truckload.

We finished the day with a snorkel at the drop off, looking at the tropical fish and soft coral. Visibility underwater is extreme, 30m, and the fish are numerous and colourful.

The rest of the afternoon was spent playing cards, reading and updating this report.
